A message from Rudy Lukez, STEM Board of Directors Chair

STEM Board of Directors

June 15, 2021

Dear STEM School Highlands Ranch Families,

I wanted to provide our entire community with a summer update of what your eight-member board is working on. While our administration team is in planning and hiring mode for the 2021-22 school year, and taking a much-needed break for the next few weeks, your Board is working on getting trained and refocused.

Now that all the parent Board positions have been filled, our first step was to complete our annual training. Understanding the legal requirements per Colorado State laws and regulations of how a Charter School Board functions are crucial. We are also actively recruiting to fill the remaining Class B seat.

When the Board is in alignment and working together, we can focus on the important work that is needed to be done in order for STEM to be successful. The Board is heading into a rebuilding phase after a very challenging two years. We experienced a lot of changes among our members, which led to a pause on some of our important work, in addition to unprecedented responsibilities associated with our incident on May 7, 2019.

I am encouraged and excited about the eight-member Board that we currently have, who are all engaged and committed to continuing STEM’s success. As we work through getting organized, assigning roles and responsibilities, committees and more, our goal is to provide the direction and support promised to Dr Eucker that we have not been able to meet to the best of our abilities this last year, so that she can be successful for the 2021-22 School Year. The Board will be working on updating the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure STEM’s success on a regular basis.

Over the last 18 months, Dr. Eucker has taken on a larger portion of the professional workload that was previously the responsibility of the Board and other volunteers. I want to thank her and our administration team for taking on those additional responsibilities while the Board was unable to. We have a great team at STEM who embodies what it means to work together and I am truly grateful for their commitment and dedication to our students, staff and school.

We will do our best to continue to provide updates on the work that we are doing throughout the summer months as we get STEM prepared for another successful and better school year.

Thank you for your time,

Rudy Lukez, STEM Board Chair
