Kindergarten Spartan Launch Information

Dear STEM School Highlands Ranch Kindergarten Families,

Welcome to our STEM Elementary Community!

Our entire Elementary Staff is looking forward to a wonderful kindergarten year together. For some of our students and their parents, this is the first time going to school. In order to make it a smooth transition for everyone, we start our year with the Kindergarten Spartan Launch.

What is the Kindergarten Spartan Launch?

All kindergarten students are invited to spend an abbreviated day at STEM prior to beginning the year. Students will meet all of their teachers and staff, tour the school, engage in STEM activities, and be informally assessed for classroom placement.

When is Kindergarten Spartan Launch?

There will be four sessions for Kindergarten Spartan Launch and we are asking our families to sign up for one of those four sessions. The first two sessions will be on Tuesday, Aug. 10 from 8:30-10 a.m. and then from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The last two sessions will be on Wednesday, Aug. 11 from 8:30-10 a.m. and then from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. To sign-up for a session, please click here.

What to Expect?

On the day of your session, please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your student’s start time and park in the Elementary School parking lot (8878 Barrons Blvd.). You will meet the STEM Kindergarten staff in the sandbox area that is located to the left of the main Elementary School entrance. Students will give their parents hugs and wave goodbye from the sandbox area prior to the teachers walking them into the building. Once in the building students will be divided into groups and participate in activities with each teacher and instructional aide. They will also get to tour the school and have time to make new friends. At the conclusion of their session, you will pick up your student from the sandbox area. Teachers will walk them out and dismiss them to you.

When do you find out who your student’s teacher is?

After the conclusion of the Kindergarten Spartan Launch on Wednesday, the team will review the data from the informal assessments and meet to discuss placement. The class roosters will be created and parents will be notified late Wednesday afternoon or first this on Thursday morning.

Official Start- Kindergarteners First Day

Your student will officially start kindergarten on Thursday, Aug. 12. For the first two mornings (Thursday, Aug. 12 and Friday, Aug. 13) please park and walk your student to the sandbox to line up with their classmates and teachers at 8:30 a.m. This transition is not always easy for our youngest learners or their parents. Please put on your brave faces to help them feel confident about heading into school for the first day. On Thursday, after all, students have entered the building, you will be invited into the cafeteria for our Tissues and Tears Parent event. Coffee and breakfast pastries will be available, along with an opportunity to share the exciting experience with other new kindergarten parents.

At the end of the day, you will pick up your student using our normal Driveline Procedures. Please review our Driveline process here. You will need to use the PikMyKid App in order to pick up your student. You can find more information about that here. We will be distributing Driveline Placards prior to the first day of school and will provide the pick-up times for that soon.
