Hi, Welcome to STEM School Highlands Ranch Elementary Physical Education!
I am Steve Broll or Coach B as most of the students call me, I am the physical education teacher for the elementary school this year. I do my best to provide an environment where students feel safe to try new activities even if they have little to no experience with them. I pride myself on being able to try and challenge every student based on their own skill level while maintaining a positive attitude. This year we will be learning and be practicing lots of skills and activities. We will be learning about different systems in our body and how they work, broomball, dancing, frisbees, and physical fitness principals.
I grew up in San Antonio, TX before moving to Highlands Ranch, CO in middle school. While I was in school I really struggled with dyslexia and found that I thrived in classes such as PE and sports. Growing up I played basketball, karate, soccer, swimming, tennis, wrestling, shot put/discus and football. I learned through sports how to work with others, achieve goals and how to deal with disappointment. By the time I was in high school, I was playing football and track and field as a thrower. While attending Highlands Ranch High School, I became a pretty good football player specializing on the offensive and defensive lines. During the track season, I was a shot putter and discus thrower. Through the sports I played, I was also able to break three of my high school’s weightlifting records as well. After high school, I was trying to find what I wanted to do with my life and a former coach of mine forced me to come help him out. I was hooked immediately and discovered that I loved teaching. I decided to attend the University of Northern Colorado because of their outstanding physical education program. While attending UNCO I was able to learn from some of the top professors in the country and teach in multiple schools of various backgrounds. After graduating from school I was able to gain additional experience working with severe and special needs students at Summit View Elementary and Arapahoe High School. While there I was able to learn how to work in ways that best met the student’s needs. During my time at UNCO and working with special needs students, I was able to develop skills that have made me a more effective teacher today and I have brought that into my classes here at STEM School Highlands Ranch. This is my fifth year here at STEM and I couldn’t be happier.
This summer my wife and I celebrated our third year wedding anniversary. My wife Sarah is a History teacher at Chaparral High School. We also have a son, Peyton, who turned one back in April. He already seems to be a bit of the sports fanatic that his parents are. I feel very blessed to be able to teach in this community because of all the family support. Please feel free to email me with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org Thanks and I look forward to a great year!
