CMAS Testing Update

Dear STEM School Highlands Ranch Third through Eighth Grade Families,

Please read this letter carefully as there are a number of important updates for all students in grades third through eighth in regards to the upcoming and continuation of CMAS testing. There are some new guidelines from the Colorado Department of Education regarding tests that are required for each grade level. You can review specific information from DCSD HERE.

Students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 will complete the last unit of the scheduled assessment for their grade level on Friday, April 9.
We are beginning to administer the make-up sessions for students that were absent. If your student is an eLearner (grades 3-8) and missed the previous session, please plan to attend on April 9 for a make-up session. Please arrive no later than 7:40 a.m. Please sign up HERE if you would like to order a lunch for your student.
Science CMAS for 8th grade eLearner students is Friday, April 23.


Grades 3 & 5 8-9:40 a.m. English Language Arts (Finish Unit 3)
Grade 4 8-9:15 a.m. Math  Math (Finish Unit 3)
Grade 7 7:50-9:50 a.m. 7 ELA Unit 1 (make-ups)
10 a.m.-12 p.m. 7 ELA Unit 2 (make-ups)
12:45-2:45 p.m. 7 ELA Unit 3 (make-ups)
Grade 6 & 8 7:50-9:05 a.m. 6 & 8 Math Unit 1 (make-ups)
9:30-10:45 a.m. 6 & 8 Math Unit 2 (make-ups)
11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. 6 & 8 Math Unit 3 (make-ups)
Grade 8  8-9:30 a.m. 8 Science Unit 1
9:40-11:10 a.m. 8 Science Unit 2
12:40-2:10 p.m. 8 Science Unit 3
    In-person testing for the Science CMAS for eight-grade students is Monday, April 12 and will be completed during the school day. Grades 3-7 will follow a normal in-person schedule for the day.
  • Middle School students will have full in-person learning during the week of April 12-15. Friday, April 16 is a Professional Development Day.

All CMAS tests require in-person administration of the tests. Parents/guardians may excuse their students from CMAS testing if they wish to do so by following this process.

With the testing-schedule modification, families have the ability to opt-in to the remaining assessments that are not required for this year. You should have received information from DCSD regarding this option If you would like to opt-in to the remaining tests (listed below), please submit your request through the DCSD process by completing this form. This request must be received by Friday, April 9. These tests will be administered in school and during the school day in the upcoming weeks. A separate schedule will be completed for eLearners opting in.

  • 3rd grade: Optional CMAS Math
  • 4th grade: Optional CMAS English Language Arts
  • 5th grade: Optional CMAS Math
  • 6th grade: Optional CMAS English Language Arts
  • 7th grade: Optional CMAS Math
  • 8th grade: Optional CMAS English Language Arts
