College Admissions Tricks and Tips for Students

Did you know that if you are a 4.0 student, you might have a harder time getting into the college or university of your choice, compared to a student who has a GPA far less than yours?

That’s because your GPA is not the only factor that college admissions officials take into account when choosing who they admit. Kandace Lytle, STEM College and Career Counselor, showed exactly how that works with the “GPA game.”

Using nine STEM staff members, Kandace simulated a scenario where a particular college or university would make their top three selections and the factors that played into the decision.  As the simulation showed, the decision is not all about a student’s GPA.  There are many other factors that go into it, including extracurricular activities, sports, how college applications are filled out, essays, cheating, and much more.

Kandace played the “GPA game” video during her recent online presentation to parents for the 2022 STEM college application family night.  To see the full video of the “GPA game”, along with the entire presentation to parents by Kandace, check out these helpful videos below.
