COVID-19 Information for Families

COVID-19 Update

Dear STEM School Highlands Ranch Families,

I hope you are all having a great week and enjoying the beautiful weather! It has been so wonderful to have our amazing kids back in school for the last couple of weeks. We are writing to inform you that we have received news of our first COVID-19 positive case today in our Secondary School.

All impacted families have been contacted directly by us via an Infinite Campus message. Forty-four students have been asked to quarantine. Additionally, we have notified our entire staff, and the directly impacted staff have moved into quarantine. We will continue with In-Person Learning for Cohort B and Virtual/Online Learning for Cohort A tomorrow (Thursday). Students and staff who have moved into quarantine will continue with their work remotely.

Remember that the definition of exposure is within 6-feet for 15 minutes of someone with COVID-19 either two days prior to symptoms or during active symptoms. So, if you have a student that was with a student in the impacted cohort, your student is not necessarily considered exposed.

What does this mean for STEM?

All students in direct contact with the student testing positive will switch to 100% Remote Learning during the quarantine period (14-days from the last time the student was at school). Students in direct contact will be back in school as soon as this quarantine period is over. Assuming there are no other positive cases, that will be the extent of the impact.

As this is our first case since school started, I know families may have questions. We will be following the DCSD guidelines that you can find here.

With over 2,000 students and staff that we could see during a school week, we expect that we will continue to have cases in the future. We will continue to operate with our cohorting class set-up so that we can continue to minimize the impact on our school community and on student learning. While understanding that nothing is perfect, the hope is that the precautions we are taking will minimize the spread within our buildings.

We would like to celebrate the efforts of our students and staff who are helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within our building. Their efforts allow us to continue offering in-person learning for our students.

We will follow-up if this particular case results in any additional cases.

If there are any additional cases that arise throughout our school, we will communicate that to the appropriate classes and at the appropriate grade level.

Thank you for your support,

STEM School Highlands Ranch Communications
