COVID Update – Wednesday, Aug. 25 – Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade to Go Virtual

Dear STEM School Highlands Ranch Third, Fourth and Fifth-Grade Families,

We would like to first start by saying thank you to all of our families for their patience and understanding during this very frustrating and difficult time. We know that receiving notifications from us about COVID cases can increase anxiety and frustration and that is not our intention. We strive to keep our families as informed as possible.

With our outbreak at first-grade, and additional cases throughout grades 2-5, we have been moved from Low Status (how we started the school year) to Elevated “High Risk” Status, which means that with our current presumed and positive cases, we have to move our third, fourth and fifth-grade students to virtual learning through Monday, Sept. 6. Students who are symptom-free and not COVID-positive can return to STEM for in-person learning on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

As we do with any positive case that we are made aware of, STEM consults with Tri-County Health Department (“TCHD”), the Public Health Agency for the Counties of Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas, Colorado, to investigate and manage any and all outbreaks of COVID-19.

During this time that the classrooms will be empty, we will be conducting a deep clean of our Elementary School Building. Our teachers will also transition to virtual learning instruction, which includes synchronous instruction for all students throughout the day. They will all provide additional instructions on what to expect over this virtual learning period.

Our hope is that when all students return on Tuesday, Sept. 7, we will be able to resume in-person learning without further disruption to the best of our abilities.

We understand that some of our families may not have access to laptops. Our IT Department has a limited number of Chromebooks available for our families if needed. Please click here to access the sign-up form if you will need a Chromebook temporarily. Our IT Department will reach out to any families who sign-up, with instructions on how to pick up their Chromebook.

We appreciate your collaboration during this challenging time. Please reach out to Ms. LynAnn Kovalesky ( or with any questions.

Thank you,

STEM School Highlands Ranch Communications
