Twice a week, STEM provides Parent Information Sessions on Zoom for families who are interested in learning more about either of our two proposed schools. One is for our STEM School Sterling Ranch campus and one is for our STEM School Denver campus within the Denver Public Schools District. Before the evening sessions, the STEM Replication Team puts the appropriate background image to reinforce the future school’s brand.
I had a moment of panic when right before we were letting in parents to the session, I had the wrong image and was scrambling to switch it out. Afterward, it was a moment of realization that we are no longer one campus but pretty soon we will be three. Each with unique characteristics, and all part of our one STEM family.
The STEM Replication Team has a packed schedule to meet with both DCSD and DPS staff to answer questions regarding our applications and future plans to open two schools in the fall of 2023. Competition with a powerhouse like STEM is a complicated relationship with the authorizing district. On the one hand, districts want to honor parent choice. On the other hand, district schools are losing students to competing programs.
Some community members in both DPS and DCSD are organized to oppose any and all charter schools, regardless of their benefit to the community. They use cancel culture tactics such as shouting and making false yet compelling statements to sway public opinion.
With that in mind, we’d like to solicit support from our community to join our Volunteer Replication Team to help us continue to get the word out, join us for community events and help with outreach. If you love STEM and believe that our PBL Instructional Model should be available to all students, please consider joining our team. Click here to sign up.
Please join us for some very challenging public events where we will be standing STEMStrongerTogether to assert our right to operate replication schools.
Upcoming Meetings:
- Tuesday, April 12 (5:30-6:30 p.m.) – DPS Virtual Community Meeting (Zoom)
- Tuesday, April 26 (6 p.m.) – DCSD Board Meeting Public Presentation (In-Person) Wilcox Board Room
The STEM Board of Directors is passionate about increasing student opportunities to have access to the exceptional education provided by the KOSON Instructional Model. Only through replication can we reach more students. Only through replication can we offer more growth opportunities for our amazing staff.
2023 will be the year that all three of our campuses will be open. And this is just the beginning.
Sincerely,
P.J. Eucker
Executive Director
