Walking the Beat with Deputy Gabe

Going to school when I was young was always fun. I’m still friends with a lot of my peers from middle
school. I still remember the things we did, the trouble we got into, and moments we shared together. I
value those days, because not only taught me things I still apply today, but those days shaped me to be
the person I am today (husband, father, police officer…me). This is why I enjoy so much seeing students
all over the place laughing, giggling, thinking…being themselves.

I believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to take care of our school. After all, this is one of the places
we spent most amount of our awake hours. For the last couple of days I’ve seen a few incidents
happening to the property. A huge amount of paper towel (not toilet paper) was thrown in one of the
student’s bathroom toilets, causing it to get clogged. The walls of one of the bathrooms were covered
with wet paper towel too. As you can imagine, figuring out who is doing these things is very difficult as
there are not any cameras inside the bathrooms. Even trying to see who goes in and out while trying to
determine at what specific time it happened is time consuming and difficult. Please encourage your
students to take care of our building. If they see something, please say something. If they’d prefer to
submit an anonymous tip they can use Safe2Tell.

Please talk to your student and explain to them that this kind of activity is far from being funny. They
don’t really inconvenience anyone with this action except themselves. All employees use the staff
designated restrooms and they are always clean and well kept. Wait, I forgot… they do cause an
inconvenience…our maintenance team works really hard to keep this campus running. They need to
come and close the bathrooms to get them cleaned. It is not fair to them.

Thank you for helping us to keep our students safe! As usual, don’t forget to be kind to each other. If
you have any questions, please email me at gabe.uribe@stemk12.org and I’ll get back to you as soon as I
can. Thank you again for your time…GO SPARTANS!

Be safe!
Deputy Gabe
