Check-In with Ms. Kovalesky

Dear STEM Families,

It was a pleasure seeing so many of you over the last few weeks. We had many parents attend our Back to School Nights, the Board Meeting, the SAC meeting, and Skate City. It is hard to believe we could pack so many things in two weeks and that many families came out to support our students and school, but we did! Strong community support leads to stronger schools and student success!

Early Release Day Friday, Aug. 30

As a reminder, STEM will have its first Early Release Day next Friday, Aug. 30. These days were added to our calendar to allow professional development for our teachers. Early Release Days ensure staff have the time and opportunity to work collaboratively with their teams to ensure our students’ continued academic success.

Please be aware of the Early Release Dismissal Schedule as follows:

  • K/1 (Green) – 11:50 a.m.
  • 2nd-5th (Orange) – 12 p.m.
  • Secondary ((West Driveline Yellow) (East Driveline Pink)) – 12:20 p.m.
  • Secondary (Blue) – 12:30 p.m.

All students will be offered Grab and Go Bistro Boxes for lunch before leaving for the day. Be sure to read your School Director’s Update in their respective newsletter sections to learn more about what to expect during our first Early Release Day.

FLASH (Fun Leisure and Social Hangout) Club

NEW for this year. Secondary students who need a place to go once school gets out on Early Release Days can join the FLASH Club from 12:25-2:55 p.m. in the Middle School Cafe and the Secondary Gym.

We’ve got a fantastic lineup planned for the first early-release day of the school year:

  • Pizza Party: We’ll kick things off with a delicious pizza feast in the middle school café. It’s the perfect way to fuel up and hang out with friends before the fun really starts.
  • Movie & Popcorn: Next, we’ll move to the secondary gym for an awesome movie experience. Grab some popcorn, get comfy, and enjoy a great film on the big screen!
  • Open Gym Time: After the movie, it’s your turn to shine in the gym! The open gym is yours to enjoy, whether you’re into sports or games or just want to chill.

Click here to learn more and sign up. Space is limited, so don’t wait too long. If your student needs to remain after 2:55 p.m., they can take part in Secondary After School Care from 3-6 p.m. in the Middle School Cafe at the regular rates. Please email enrichment@stemk12.org with any questions.

School Safety and Drills

We’ve conducted two safety drills (Evacuation and Lockdown) with our staff and our students so far this year. We follow the Standard Response Protocol that is outlined by the I Love You Guys Foundation, and our goal is to ensure that everyone is prepared in the same process and manner for anything that may happen. If you or your student have any questions about the drills that we conduct, why we do it, or any safety-related questions, please reach out to our High School Director (and Safety-Team Lead) Ryan Alsup (ryan.alsup@stemk12.org). Additionally, please take a moment to read the bi-weekly newsletter that our SRO Deputy Gabe puts together, which includes important safety information.

I hope you all have a great week.

In partnership,

LynAnn Kovalesky, Executive Director
