Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS)

At STEM School Highlands Ranch, a layered continuum of prevention-based supports is in place to improve the outcomes of every student. The framework of a Multi-Tiered System of Support is implemented to help students succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally.

Within the MTSS framework, we provide a tiered system of academic and behavioral support to help students progress toward their educational goals. The MTSS Process is the first step in helping the educational team (parents, students, and teachers) identify the needs of the student. MTSS plans are managed by the MTSS Coordinator and a team. Interventions are provided by STEM classroom teachers. The team consists of a group of teachers representing various grade levels and/or subject areas, as well as administrators and student support services faculty.

Classroom Teacher

Prior to an MTSS referral, classroom teachers work with their grade-level team to develop best-practice strategies and interventions for a student. Teachers collect data on the effectiveness of each strategy, and if progress is not being made, teachers may consult with the MTSS Coordinator and the MTSS Team for additional support.
