Athletics Update from Mrs. Jones (10/11/24)

STEM Athletics Update

Spartan Athletics is on fire!

Girls Volleyball is riding a 5-game win streak into their game today VS Golden View Classical Academy. Good luck, ladies! Let’s keep the streak going. Senior night will be on October 21 vs Loveland Classical at STEM. Come out and help us honor our seniors.

Boys Soccer is also on a roll. They have won several games with a dominating score of 10-0. The team plays again on Monday, Oct. 21, after Fall Break at Marcy Park vs Loveland Classical. Game time is 3:30. Senior night is October 23 vs Sheridan at Marcy Park at 3:30. Come cheer on the team and honor the seniors.

eSports continues to play well. The teams are fighting hard for spots in the playoffs, winning more than they lose. The Mario Kart and Smash teams posted wins against Ellicott and Loveland High Schools. Keep up the good work, Spartans!

Boys Golf: With ideal golfing conditions extending to the first day of October, the STEM Boys’ Golf Team relished the chance to take part in the five-team “Last Hurrah Invitational” hosted by Bishop Machebeuf at Emerald Greens Golf Course on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The 9-hole tournament was played in a stroke-play format, with the Spartans competing against players from Bishop Machebeuf, Denver Academy, DSST: Cole, and St. John Paul the Great.

Several STEM golfers took a break from competition after playing the 18-hole regional championships the previous day, but Aarav Singh continued his good form from regionals by leading the way for the Spartans with a score of 41, good for 7th place overall.

Joey Arnold and Maddox Otto also ended up in the top ten, with Arnold finishing in solo 9th place with a score of 42 and Otto finishing tied for 10th with a score of 43.

Miles Steiner was in career-best form as he broke the 50-stroke barrier with a score of 47, with fellow freshmen Zachary Neff (51), Andrew Brennan (52), Logan Dollard (52) and Jayden Yoon (54) rounding out the scoring for the Spartans.

The event marked the final high school tournament for Otto, though the Spartans will look to return 10-of-12 golfers next year to gain from their experiences this season.

Speech/Debate participated in their first-ever competition at the JEFFCO Invite at Chatfield High School. The Spartans had nine students competing, with eight receiving awards! Including 3 receiving the highest “superior” rating! We even had one student go undefeated. Amazing results for our team’s first-ever competition. Well done.
