Director's Update
A message from Mrs. McElroy
Dear STEM Families and Community,
We are three weeks in, and everyone is beginning to settle into their routines. It is so great walking around and seeing all the students engaged in their learning. This week, from first through fifth grade, I started iReady testing, and the students are rocking it. It will be so exciting to see all their growth this year.
This Friday, Aug. 30, will be our first early release day. Below is information about all early release days this year.
- K/1 (Green) – 11:50 a.m.
- 2nd-5th (Orange) – 12 p.m.
- Secondary ((West Driveline Yellow) (East Driveline Pink)) – 12:20 p.m.
- Secondary (Blue) – 12:30 p.m.
All elementary students will receive a bistro box lunch to eat in their classroom before dismissal. Students may still bring a lunch from home if they do not want the bistro box lunch.
Specials will rotate throughout the school year on the early release days. For the August 30th early release, 3rd -5th grade will have specials. On the next early release, K-2 will have specials.
The remaining early release days are:
- October 11th
- November 15th
- January 24th
- March 14th
- April 11th
- April 25th
- May 21st
Here are a few additional essential reminders:
Picture Day: Picture Day will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 27. Please be on the lookout for communication from DR Photo on how to order school photos.
PTO Meet-n-Greet: PTO is hosting a Meet-n-Greet at Prost Brewing Company from 4-6 p.m. This is an opportunity to meet members of the PTO and see how you can get involved this year. If you have any questions, please email ptoteams@stemk12.org.

Elementary Photo Day
Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Elementary School Gym
Elementary school students will get their picture taken on Tuesday, Aug. 27. Students will come to the Elementary School Gymnasium by class to have their photo taken. A link to order photos will be sent directly from DR Photo. Please email info@stemk12.org with any questions.

KOSON/STEM Monthly Board Meeting
Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 5:30-7 p.m. – Mechatronics Lab in P-TECH/KOSON Building & Zoom
The KOSON/STEM Board of Directors will be holding its Monthly Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 5:30-7 p.m. in person and via Zoom. The BOD is comprised of parents and community members who volunteer their time. The Board’s role and purpose is to provide oversight of the KOSON Schools Chief Innovation Officer, who implements the policies set forth by the Board. The Board also provides support and direction for STEM’s long-term vision and mission. Additionally, the Board is active in making sure that KOSON Schools remains in compliance with all DCSD, state and federal compliance requirements, as well as STEM School Highlands Ranch’s Charter Contract.
Meetings are open to anyone to attend. Anyone who would like to address the Board Members must sign-up in advance by completing the Public Comment Form no later than 12 p.m. the day of each Board meeting. If written testimony or a handout is submitted, presenters are asked to supply one (1) copy via email to communications@stemk12.org.

Policymakers recommended that the Colorado Department of Education examine the costs necessary to adequately provide Colorado students with a thorough and uniform public education. The Department has contracted with AIR to conduct this research. Click the button below to find out more.
