Director's Update
A message from Mrs. McElroy
Dear STEM Families and Community,
We had another fantastic week of learning. The best part of my job is visiting classrooms and seeing all the students engaged and collaborating with one another. Student council candidates have been campaigning all week, and voting will start on Tuesday. We will announce the 2024-25 student council officers on Friday, Sept. 20. Students will still have an opportunity to run for their class representative if they do not win an officer position. As we shift into fall, our mornings are becoming chilly, but it is still hot in the afternoon. Please make sure you are labeling your student’s hoodies and jackets. This is the time of year when our lost and found begin to grow.
PTO Blast Off
Thursday, Sept. 19, is PTO’s annual Blast Off from 4-7 p.m. Please join us for fun and food. PTO will have carnival games, a bounce house, food trucks, and info tables. This is a great time to meet other STEM families and build lifelong connections.
K-12 Homecoming Spirit Week
Our homecoming spirit week is right around the corner. We have many fun activities planned for the whole K-12. We will kick off the week on Monday, Sept. 23, with our annual Powder Puff Game at 4 p.m. at Northridge Rec Center. We will end the week with a Tailgate Party outside the athletic entrance starting at 3:30 p.m., followed by the girls’ volleyball game. Both of these events are for all STEM students. We will also celebrate all week with spirit days.
Our spirit days are:
- Monday – Sharks -v- Jellyfish (K-2 – Sharks wear blue and 3-5 -Jellyfish wear pink)
- Tuesday – Sleep with the fishes (Pajama Day)
- Wednesday – Under the Sea (Dress as an Under the Sea character)
- Thursday – Coral Day! (Wear tie-dye)
- Friday – Beach Day! (Wear your favorite beach wear)
School Count is Coming
It’s official – October Count Day this year is Tuesday, October 1st. The most important action you can take to support school funding is to make sure your student attends school on this day. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on student count, so we encourage you to make sure your student comes to school that day.
The “count window” the state observes is from September 24 – October 8, but the most important student count day is Tuesday, October 1st. Help us get an accurate count by having your student participate in learning that day. I appreciate your support! Every student counts!

Upcoming Events
STEM School Accountability Committee (SAC)
Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 5:30-7:30 p.m. – KOSON/P-TECH Building (Mechatronics Lab)/Zoom
The meeting will also be available to watch via Zoom. In-person participation is strongly encouraged to help build engagement. Additionally, those who would like to participate in Public Comment must do so in person.
The purpose of the SAC is to inform, encourage, and provide opportunities for parents and community members to be involved in the planning and evaluation of the school’s instructional program and quality improvement processes. The SAC makes recommendations concerning the School’s performance, improvement, priority improvement, or turnaround plan, and meets to discuss the implementation of the School’s plan and other progress pertinent to STEM’s accreditation contract with the Board of Education. The SAC makes recommendations to the director to prioritize the spending of school money.
