Tutoring during access in MS and HS commons
Our Math Society students are volunteering to assist with math homework during access periods (11-11:40 a.m.) on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Help will be available in both the Middle School and High School commons. Students who need support or want to catch up on homework should feel free to take advantage of this opportunity. Students should contact either their math teacher or access teacher to add their name to the list for help.
IMPORTANT! Secondary Yearbook Information
Hello, STEM community! Yearbooks will be available for purchase soon at yearbookforever.com. We have some important action items to make the yearbook as great as can be:
- SENIORS: Senior portraits and senior quotes should be emailed to yearbook@stemk12.org on or before October 31.
- PARENTS OF SENIORS: Baby ads are also due by October 31. They can also be purchased at yearbookforever.com as you purchase your senior’s yearbook.
- PREFERRED NAMES: If your student would like their name printed as any name other than what is listed in Infinite Campus, please email parent permission to yearbook@stemk12.org or michelle.wesley@stemk12.org.
Costume Guidelines
- Costumes that would otherwise violate the Student Dress Code Policy will only be allowed if approved by an administrator prior to wearing them to school.
- For safety reasons, masks or makeup should not cover the student’s face in a manner that makes the student unrecognizable.
- Toy or facsimile guns or weapons (knives, swords…) are not allowed.
- Costumes that are overly graphic, promote violence, or otherwise might logically be assumed to be offensive to others are not acceptable.
- Costumes should not include items with sound effects, lights, or other components that would disrupt the classroom learning environment
Career Discovery Corner (Internships and Career Opportunities)
2nd Semester CE High School Engineering Course Added
Great News! We have added ELT 1206, Fundamentals of DC/AC, to our second-semester schedules. The ELT 1206 course is a concurrent enrollment course and is a prerequisite to several of our other ELT courses taught at STEM. If you are planning on registering for ELT courses during the 25/26 school year or are looking at adding a CE course to your second semester, please reach out to Nicole Ryan at nicole.ryan@stemk12.org.
ELT 1206 has a math prerequisite. Students can meet the corequisite through one of the following: enrolled in/ completed CE MAT 1140 (Career Math) or higher, enrolled in/ completed AP Pre Calc or higher, OR scores on the following exams: ACT 19, SAT 500, Accuplacer NGQA 240**
** The accuplacer can be taken at STEM on November 15, at 1 p.m. or at ACC before 2nd semester. Please reach out for details.
Mark your calendars for STEM's Career Discovery Day
Attention STEM Spartans! Mark your calendar for Thursday, October 24th. During ACCESS, we will have industry partners visiting our campus to share with our 7th through 12th-grade students. The event is your opportunity to ask questions and engage in enlightening conversations with professionals across all industries, including aerospace/ aviation, health care, security, engineering, and more. Accuplacer Exam - November 15th
Good news! Do you need to take the Accuplacer Exam for Math or English placement? Or to demonstrate proficiency? Arapahoe Community College will be offering the Accuplacer Exam at STEM on November 15th at 1 PM (free of charge). Students take the accuplacer to demonstrate proficiency or to determine placement for some of our CE courses, such as ELT 1206, CSC 2017, CSC 1060 or ENG 1021. If you are scheduled for a CE course that requires math or English proficiency and needs to take the accuplacer, please reach out to Nicole Ryan at nicole.ryan@stemk12.org.

National Security Agency - High School Work Study Program
The National Security Agency (NSA) is looking for high school juniors who possess outstanding academic credentials in business, computer technology, engineering, graphic arts, manufacturing, construction, Chinese language, Russian language, or humanities.
The program is designed for students who plan to participate in a paid part-time internship from September through August for a minimum of four hours a day, Monday through Friday during senior year. For more information, please see the attached flier.
CU Pre-Health Scholars Program Application Now Open
Are you interested in a healthcare career? If so, the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is now accepting applications for their CU Pre-Health Scholars Program (CUPS). The program serves grades 6th through 12th and exposes scholars to high-impact events, research, STEAM, and Healthcare careers. At the same time, preparing our scholars to be competitive applicants for post-secondary education and matriculation into professional health careers or graduate school programs. The application is open until December 1, 2024. You can find more information about the program on their website.
Merrick's Designer Apprentice - Application Open
Merrick & Company is seeking a high school student interested in Engineering or Drafting & Design for a paid apprenticeship program for Fall 2024 in the Greenwood Village, CO headquarters. The apprentice will support client projects such as those involving aerospace missions, national defense, research laboratories, land development, water systems, sustainable energy, bio-manufacturing, and industrial manufacturing, as well as being exposed to training and development opportunities! The apprenticeship program has a commitment of approximately 18 months to 2 years.
Merrick Summer 2025 Paid Internship Applications Now Open
Are you looking for a summer internship? Merrick & Company is accepting applications from now to November 2024 for a paid Mechanical Equipment Designer Intern. The Merrick Intern Program will provide an opportunity to gain technical experience in the field of mechanical equipment design. The intern will be exposed to a variety of mechanical design items, potentially including detailed machine design, 3D modeling in CREO (Pro/Engineer), and creation of drawings in CREO (Pro/Engineer).
