Dear STEM School Highlands Ranch Families,
We are anticipating wet and stormy weather to start rolling into the area around 2 p.m., impacting both Elementary and Secondary Drivelines. We wanted to give our families advance notice of our Lightning Dismissal Process. If lightning is recorded within a six-mile radius of the school, all staff and students will be moved indoors and shall remain indoors until there is no longer lightning within a six-mile radius for at least 15 minutes.
We follow the Douglas County School District’s Lightning Dismissal Practice and Protocols. We utilize the Weather Bug app to detect lightning strikes.
Pick Up Rules
- All students will be held inside the school building during a lightning delay, unless they are over the age of 18. Unless otherwise noted in IC, students over the age of 18 may not pick up their younger siblings until the lightning delay is lifted.
- Siblings under the age of 18 coming to pick up a younger sibling will be asked to stay in the building and will NOT be released.
- Parents, please do not gather at the door for pick-up during a lightning delay. Please wait in your car until you receive a notification that the delay has been lifted.
- Once conditions at the site are considered to be safe, students will be released.
All messages will be sent via School Messenger in both email and text message form. We may also use PikMyKid for Elementary Families if needed.
Please remember to be patient.
Thank you,
Nicole Bostel, Director of Communications
