July 5, 2022
Dear STEM School Highlands Ranch Community,
I hope everyone enjoyed celebrating the 4th of July weekend. Two days ago I shared with our community the news of Dr. Penny Eucker’s retirement, and tonight the Board met to vote on the Interim CEO of KOSON Schools. Dr. Karen Johnson was nominated and appointed by the Board of Directors to serve as the Interim CEO of KOSON Schools.
Dr. Johnson and her team will work through her current duties and responsibilities as the Director of Curriculum and Accountability to make sure that the duties are reassigned to the appropriate staff for the duration of her interim role. This will allow Dr. Johnson to focus on the KOSON responsibilities of CEO as outlined by the STEM Board of Directors earlier this year.
LynAnn Kovalesky will continue to lead as the Executive Director and under her direction continue to expand on our mission of Never Stop Innovating at our flagship campus. As she fully takes the reins this school year, the Board fully supports the work that she is doing to build on the strong foundation that is already in place.
Together, Dr. Johnson and LynAnn Kovalesky will continue the hard work to make sure we are ready to welcome our staff and our students back in August.
The STEM Board of Directors will continue to meet this summer to outline our next steps. There is still much work that needs to be done, but I can assure you that your STEM Board is committed to our Mission and Vision. Many have asked why we are seeking to replicate, and why would we replicate when there is still so much to do at our Highlands Ranch campus. The vision set forth by the STEM Board many years ago was to bring STEM’s exceptional Problem-Based Learning instructional model to as many students as we possibly can because of its impact on unleashing student potential.
The Board believes that we have the right pieces in place at our flagship campus and we want to continue progress toward opening another campus; not with the intention of taking away from our flagship campus, but to enhance it.
As Chair/President, I am committed toward providing our community with as much transparency as my position allows. While there may be some things we cannot share, we will always do our best to be as forthcoming with our community as we can.
Thank you for your continued support of STEM School Highlands Ranch. We are an amazing community that I am proud to not only lead but also be a part of.
Kelly Reyna
