Carla has been a part of the STEM community since 2016 and a Board member since May 2021. Carla and her husband Scott have two children, a STEM 2023 Alumni and a STEM 8th grader. Carla’s STEM volunteering includes parent volunteer for HS and MS BEST Robotics, parent representative on the SAC committee May 2020-May 2022, and classroom volunteer. Carla has focused her volunteering on STEM outreach and education, including CSU’s Introduce a Girl to Engineering and Merrick’s Bring Your Kid to Work Day
Carla started her professional career with a degree in chemical engineering from Colorado School of Mines. She retired from Merrick & Company in 2024 after a 28 year career. Merrick is a Colorado headquartered engineering consulting firm, where she started as a process design engineer. Her roles included lead engineer and project manager before her most recent role of Engineering Manager for the Nuclear Services & Technology team at Merrick. Carla’s engineering experience involves custom equipment and nuclear facility upgrades in support of the Department of Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration. She was an avid supporter of employee development programs through Merrick’s culture committee (past chair), Merrick Way employee recognition program (past chair), and peer mentoring program.
