John Munro

My Bio

John Munro joined STEM as the head Boys’ Basketball coach for the 2022-23 Season. He believes in the importance of sports in the physical, mental, and social development of young adults. Wins and losses may feel important at the moment, but the skills of teamwork, goal setting, competition, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle (to name a few) will last a lifetime.

He grew up in Missouri and attended the Missouri School of Science and Technology, graduating with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. After graduation, he worked as a metallurgist and later as a manufacturing manager in Portland, Ore. Outside work, he was involved in marathoning, hiking, youth mentoring, and Mt. Hood Ski Patrol. He met his wife, Kara, in Portland, and it is also where his two sons were born.

His family moved to Highlands Ranch in 2010. Both his sons attend STEM and he has also served as a volunteer coach over the past several seasons.

Of the seven youth and adult sports he has coached, basketball is his favorite. On winter weekends, you may see him on the slopes of Breckenridge, where he is a PSIA-certified ski instructor. Travel and just about any activity in the mountains are his passions. Additionally, he also may have a bit of an addiction to home improvement projects.
