Athletics Update from Mr. Alsup

STEM Athletics Update

January 14, 2022

Hello Spartans!

I hope you all had another fantastic week! Here are your weekly athletic announcements!

The boys’ basketball team took on the Atlas Prep Gryphons. The team battled hard but came up a little short. They were also scheduled to play Liberty Tree Academy on Friday, but the game was postponed due to weather.

Next week, the Mighty Stem Spartans will travel to Aurora to take on the Vanguard Classical School Hawks on Wednesday, Jan. 19. Please come out and support our team!

Looking forward, it is time to start thinking about spring sports. The spring season officially starts on February 28, however, each team has some preseason activities for their athletes to participate in.

Girls Soccer

Preseason activities are underway. If you are interested in playing girls soccer, please contact Coach Cooper at edward.cooper@https://stemk12.org. He can give you additional information about the preseason training and competitions that the team is engaging in.

Boys Lacrosse

As mentioned in previous emails, the STEM Lacrosse team has joined with the Highlands Ranch Falcons. This provides us the opportunity to play a full CHSAA schedule. This is a CHSAA team, so all Stem High School students who want to play lacrosse must play for this team. For more information, please contact Coach Walker at forrest.walker@https://stemk12.org. You can also visit the Highlands Ranch Lacrosse website. All interested players must register to play through the Highlands Ranch High School site, which can be found on this site.

Boys and Girls Track

Track season also begins on February 28. For more information on preseason activities, please contact Coach Smith at chris.smith@https://stemk12.org.

eSports

Registration for the spring eSports team is now open. With preseason beginning on 1/31, it is important to register ASAP so we can register our teams. If you are going to play, there are two steps I need you to complete.

Thanks everyone! Go Spartans!

Sincerely,
Ryan Alsup

Hello Spartans!

I hope you all had a great first week back from Winter Break and are ready for second semester. Now that it is January, it is time to sign up for the spring eSports season. As you know, we had a very successful inaugural season in the fall, with our teams both making it to the semi finals!
As we move into the spring season, we would like to expand our team and get as many people involved as possible. Below is a list of the eSports options: Please take a close look as there are a few new options!

Game Number of Team Members Platform
Game Day (times are all 4:00)
League of Legends 5 PC/MAC Tuesdays
Splatoon 2 4 Nintendo Switch Tuesdays
Overwatch 6 PC Wednesdays
Super Smash Brothers Ultimate 3 Nintendo Switch Wednesdays
Rocket League 3 PC/Console Thursdays
Madden NFL 22 1 PlayStation 4 Thursdays
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 4 Nintendo Switch Thursdays
Hearthstone 3 PC/Console Thursdays

If you are interested in eSports, here is a list of important dates:

  • Information meeting after school on Thursday, Jan. 13 in room 145
  • Registration is open until February 2
  • Preseason: January 31-February 18 – We can play preseason matches against other schools at this time.
  • Regular season: February 21-April 15 (Please see chart above for actual game days)
  • Playoffs: April 18-27
  • Spring Championships: April 28-30

If you are going to play, there are two steps I need you to complete.

  1. Please click here to complete the registration and pay the participation fee. You cannot play until this is complete.
  2. Once you have registered, please click here to complete this interest survey. This will help me register you on the PlayVS site, and help me build teams (if you register as a team).

Along with eSports, it is also time to begin to think about our spring sports. Currently, we have girls soccer, and boys and girls track. For this year only, our boys lacrosse team will be playing in a co-op with Highlands Ranch High School, so if you are interested in playing boys lacrosse, please contact me and I will get you the information. We are hoping to expand our spring offerings to include girls golf, girls tennis, and girls lacrosse. If you think you or your daughter might be interested in participating in any of these opportunities, please click here and complete the survey. Completing the survey does not obligate you to play, but will give me an idea if there is enough interest to begin building a schedule and reserving space for practices.

Thanks everyone! Go Spartans!

Sincerely,

Mr. Ryan Alsup, STEM High School Director and Athletic Director
