Walking the Beat with Deputy Gabe

Here comes the cold! I was not expecting the last couple of days to be this cold. And just like every year when this weather is coming, I’d like to remind you about something important: don’t leave your vehicle unattended while it is warming up in the morning or any other time. We continue to see many vehicles getting stolen while they are warmed up (puffing). Stay alert and do the right thing. I’ll send you another reminder as the weather continues to get colder and colder.

On a different note, I wanted to bring up something that is a little bit concerning. This week has been particularly busy with incidents between students. I am not sure why, but students seem to have less patience with each other than they used to. I keep hearing situations where hurtful words are being used, and even minor physical altercations occurred.

If you didn’t read my portion of the newsletter last week, please do so. Encourage your child to do it if possible. I spoke about kindness. I spoke about treating each other with respect and dignity. I am not sure where tolerance went, but it has diminished lately.

Encourage your student to be kind. Please have a conversation with your children about facing the consequences of their actions. I hope this doesn’t sound like a threat, but they need to know that there is a fine line between being silly and funny, with committing a crime (Harassment, Disorderly Conduct, Assault, Criminal Tampering, Criminal Mischief, etc.).

Thanks again for allowing me to be part of your student’s story. Don’t forget to enjoy the weekend and chat with your children. Don’t hesitate to contact me if there is anything I can help you with or any questions you might have about anything.

You can just email me at gabe.uribe@stemk12.org, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you so much for allowing me to talk to you about this!

Be safe!

Deputy Gabe
