Athletics Update from Mr. Alsup: Preparing for Spring Sports

STEM Athletics Update

Hello Spartans! This has been a busy week here in Sparta. Below are a few of the highlights:

Congratulations to the STEM eSports teams. Both the Rocket League and the League of Legends teams had amazing inaugural seasons, each making it to the semi-finals! Nice work!

On Wednesday, Dec. 8 our Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Arvada and defeated the Two Roads Falcons 39-15! Nice job Spartans! On Thursday, Dec. 9 the Spartans will travel to Longmont to play Twin Peaks Charter Academy and will play our final game before Winter Break on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at Vanguard Classical School East. Please come out and support the Spartans!

As I mentioned last week in the Parent Newsletter, Boys’ Lacrosse is just around the corner! This year, we have elected to partner with Highlands Ranch High School to have a combined team for the 2022 season. This will give our athletes an opportunity to play a full schedule on a CHSAA sanctioned team. For those who are interested, there will be a parent meeting at Highlands Ranch High School on Wednesday, Dec. 15 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. We understand that there is a conflict with this meeting so we will do our best to capture all of the information to then provide it as an update in next Friday’s Parent Newsletter.

This will be a great opportunity to meet other parents and players and get more information from Coach Walker (STEM head coach) and Coach CJ (Highlands Ranch Head Coach) about the upcoming season. They will also discuss the costs and registration process at this meeting. The meeting will be in-person, but we will also broadcast it through Google Meets for those who are unable to join us. Information on the Google Meet broadcast will be sent out next week. This is a critical meeting, so please help us pass the word on to any potential lacrosse parents and please mention to read the Weekly Parent Newsletter.

Now that the fall eSports season has come to a close, it is time to start thinking about the spring. The season starts in February, but we can begin registering now and start building our teams. We can start scrimmaging other schools as soon as we have a team in place! If you are interested in joining, here are the options:

For the Nintendo we have

  • Smash Ultimate- 3 player teams
  • Splatoon 2- 4 player teams
  • New this season- Mario Kart 8 deluxe- 4 player teams

On the PS4

  • Fifa 21- Solo
  • Madden- Solo

And on PC

  • League of Legends- 5 player teams
  • Rocket League- 3 player teams
  • Smite- 5 player teams

If you are interested in playing eSports and are ready to register, please click here. If you have friends at STEM who you would like to be part of your eSports team, please make sure they register! Once we have enough students for a team, we can begin scrimmaging other schools immediately.

Looking ahead to the spring. We currently offer boys and girls track, girls soccer, and boys lacrosse (partnered with Highlands Ranch). However, we are definitely interested in expanding our options. We can also add girls golf or girls tennis to the spring season, but I cannot begin to build a schedule without knowing if there is enough interest. So, I have created a short survey for interested families to fill out. Please click here for the survey.

Thanks, everyone! Go Spartans!

Sincerely,
Ryan Alsup
High School Director and Athletic Director
