Athletics Update from Mrs. Jones (09/01/23)

Lot’s of activity this week! We have had coaching changes for the boys Soccer team. Please welcome Nancy Szczekocki and Daniel Kerwin! They are a great coaching tandem who have been coaching our girls’ team and are looking forward to working with the boys’ team. The boys notched a 4-1 win against Mile High Academy on Tuesday and play again Friday at Sky View at 4 p.m. The JV team also got in some action at Mile High Academy, battling to a 5-5 tie. Well done!

The girls’ Volleyball team earned a hard-fought victory on Friday night at home and then turned around and won first place in a tournament in Longmont on Saturday. They played a tough match on Thursday in a gym with air conditioning but came up short. The team is back home next week with matches on Tuesday and Thursday. Come on out and cheer them on!

We’re going to start charging for athletic events to help support our student-athletes and athletic department. You can purchase tickets in advance by clicking the button to the right. Adults are $8, seniors are $5 and students and children are $5. STEM Staff are free. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

The Cross Country teams competed in the Cherry Creek Invitational last Saturday and took advantage of the cool temperatures to post many personal best and near personal best times. The team is working hard and improving each week. Impressive. The team is in action again on Friday at Dekoevend Park. Run tough Spartans!

NEW REGISTRATIONS

We’re excited to also share that we have registrations open for Middle School Cross Country (Underway, first meet 9/8), High School eSports (Starts 9/10) and Middle School Girls Basketball (Starts week of 10/9).

We must have a completed physical form submitted prior to any practices or competitions.

INTEREST FORMS AND MEETINGS

High School Girls’ Soccer will be holding an interest meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 3-3:45 p.m. in Room 234 for any High School girls who are interested in playing or finding out more information. This meeting is for students. Please contact daniel.kerwin@stemk12.org or nancy.szczekocki@stemk12.org with any questions.

We’re gauging interest in the formation of a High School Speech and Debate team. Speech and Debate is a CHSAA activity that runs from October through March (State Tournament). In order to register a team, a sustainable level of student interest and program sponsorship is needed. The team may choose to form an Enrichment Club prior to seeking CHSAA admission. Students should complete the interest form via the button below.

We’re also gauging interest in the formation of a High School Cheer Team. Cheer is a CHSAA activity regulated under Spirit that runs from August through December (State Tournament). In order to register a team, a sustainable level of interest and program sponsorship is needed. The team may choose to form an Enrichment Club prior to seeking CHSAA admission.  Students should complete the interest form via the button below.

Thank you all for your continued support and Go Spartans!!

Mrs. Susan Jones, Athletic Director
