Battle of the Books (Grades 3-6)

We are excited to announce the start of our Battle of the Books club for the 2023-2024 season! Mrs. Ackley is our 5th/6th grade coach and Ms. Arianna is our 3rd/4th grade coach! We have both enjoyed reading since we were young and love that we get to coach a club dedicated to books! Though practices don’t start for a while, it is still a fun process reading the books and meeting you all! We have put together a small informational packet that can help with any common questions you may have over the next 2 months. Of course, if you have any more questions, please feel free to reach out to us! We look forward to working with you!

TSA Cocoa and Cookies

Friday, Sept. 29, from 6-8 p.m. – High School Commons

On Friday, Sept. 29, from 6-8 p.m. in the High School Commons. Come learn more about TSA and compete in a Rubik’s cube and engineering challenges. See the wide variety of projects that students have created in years past for their events and competitions.

Save the date for TSA Run-Offs/Potluck Fundraiser on Friday, Dec. 8!

TSA Run-offs and Potluck Fundraiser

Friday, Dec. 8, starting at 3:30 p.m. – Secondary Gym

Students are choosing their events and beginning work on projects. STEM has a tradition of holding Run-offs along with a potluck fundraiser. Run-offs will determine which individuals or teams will qualify to participate at the Colorado TSA State Conference in February. This year, STEM TSA Run-offs will be held from 3:30-7 p.m. followed by a potluck dinner (watch for food sign-up in early November) where cash donations to support TSA are encouraged. At 7:30 p.m., TSA advisors will cover specific information about the Colorado TSA State Conference and potentially be able to announce individuals and teams that qualify for their events at 8 p.m.

STEM Tabletop Game Master Training - Middle and High School

This program will teach middle and high school students the art and science of how to gamemaster(GM) a roleplaying session. We will start with a roleplaying safety tip sheet to learn how to identify topics that are or are not appropriate for various game tables (judgment free, this is a discussion of how to have these conversations, not an endorsement one way or another.
The class will then expand to elements of planning, how to run game sessions, time management, how to redirect players, how to resolve player conflict, how to build and maintain story momentum. We will delve into how to best use digital tools, map making, encounter balance, game play styles, social vs tactical vs strategic gameplay, metagaming.
After the first few sessions, this will become a time for students to plan/prep for their own Roleplaying games (hopefully they are running as a GMfor their HS and MS classmates during those enrichment opportunities). In addition to planning it will be a time for GMs to discuss any challenges they might be having with their groups for peer (and lead) support to resolve issues.

Meets on Tuesdays 3-3:45 p.m. in Ms. Montour’s room E222, starting on September 19. Cost: $0/student
