STEM NHS students get dirty for Wish Week celebration

Wish Kid Colton attends Friday pep rally in his honor for Wish Week

Friday’s pep rallies to close out Wish Week were something special to see. It was announced that so far more than $6,300 has been raised to send our Wish Kid Colton to experience his dream trip at Disney World! There is still more to add up, but so far things are looking good for hitting that goal.
As always, our NHS kids make us proud, working hard to organize all of these events while juggling the demands of high school and homework. Colton and his family watched in delight as our NHS students were glitter bombed and slimed while STEM staff battled STEM students in tug-o-war contests.
Thank you to our entire community for stepping it up as always for Colton and his family. We all know they have been through so much and it took all of us to come together for the cause and find creative and fun ways to fundraise. Everyone should be proud and feel accomplished from this week!

New mural in STEM Elementary School symbolizes students and staff working together to innovate

The hands of STEM
The hands of STEM.
Take a look at the new mural added in our elementary school! In the center is STEM’s logo and all of the hands you see reaching up in the air were traced from the arms of STEM students and staff.
STEM 5th graders assisted with this project in collaboration with Kindergarteners. Once the tracing was complete,  Mrs. Del Olmo finished the mural with a beautiful paint job.
This is symbolic of how STEM operates. In our classrooms, the hands of both students and staff work together each day to innovate, educate and create!

Lockheed Martin gives presentation to STEM Scientific Methods class

What makes a great engineer?
Lockheed Martin would know! They volunteered to lead an activity in Mr. Sweeney’s Scientific Methods class and a big part of their presentation had to do with what Lockheed builds, who they employ and what separates their engineers from others.
The students loved the presentation and were given an exciting glimpse at potential future careers and industries.

STEM celebrates Love of Reading Week with readers from all walks of life

Thanks to all of our volunteers who took time out of their day to read to our elementary students as part of Love of Reading Week.  Our elementary students were treated to readers from all walks of life including deputies with DCSO, STEM parents, an author, Denver media personalities and much more.

STEM students asked a lot of great questions during the sessions and learned a lot from the stories and careers of the presenters.  Some of our presenters were even given personalized thank you notes from our classes afterwards.

We are already looking forward to next year’s event!

Celebrating Pi Day with pies in the face and baking contest for Wish Week

Pi Day celebration!
Our students and staff had a delicious competition that had everything to do with pies and desserts. While some were left with pie on the face, others walked away as pie making champions!
This was just one of the creative, student-led events to raise money for STEM’s Wish Week. The fun continued Wednesday night in the new gym with the STEM staff vs. student basketball game. Admission was $5 at the door and proceeds went to sending our Wish Kid Colton to Disney World. Be sure to check out the video highlights of the big game!

STEM Boys' Volleyball team holds first tryout and practice session

STEM Athletics is expanding! One of the teams we recently added is Boys’ High School Volleyball.  This week we had a chance to see the first volleyball tryout session and practice. Our new gym doubles as a volleyball court, making it easy for quick transitions between practices and games. We’re looking forward to seeing our new teams develop!
