STEM second graders tackle PBL unit about STEM's community and operations

Who and what consists of the STEM community? That’s the PBL unit that our second graders are working on. The students are learning all about how STEM operates, what we create, our history, what makes us unique and how to get the word out about STEM to others outside of our own community.
A special thanks to Deputy Gabe and the STEM staff and students who visited the classrooms today to give insight about the whole operation!

STEM first graders take field trip to Majestic View Nature in Arvada

The perfect place for a field trip! This week STEM first graders visited Majestic View Nature in Arvada where they learned about plants, animals and protecting the environment.
The Nature Center is the City of Arvada’s environmental education facility. Using the nature trails, wetland areas and prairie ecosystems to explore, the center connects thousands of kids with Arvada’s parks to better understand nature.
The facility also has 3,000 square feet of hands-on displays, wildlife exhibits, a kids’ activity area, classrooms and meeting spaces. From their augmented reality sandbox to the mounted gray wolf, all ages can learn to explore nature. Just outside the Nature Center is 25,000 square feet of a beautiful water-conserving demonstration garden where visitors can discover native and regionally appropriate plants and wildlife.

STEM staff unite in orange for Broncos first regular season game against the Seattle Seahawks

On Monday, some of the STEM staff showcased their best orange and blue attire to support the Denver Broncos against the Seattle Seahawks.  Unfortunately the Broncos came up short and registered their first loss of the season, but we saw some shining moments from the team, including some great passes from Denver Quarterback Russell Wilson.  This weekend, the Broncos take on the Houston Texans for the first Denver home game of the regular season.  Go Broncos!
