Today’s Walking the Beat might be a bit short so I can feel more assured that most of you will read it. It is not that you read based on the length, as I know you like to read good stuff, but sometimes less is more.
Hopefully, some of you noticed what we were trying to do at the Elementary School Driveline yesterday. It is unfortunate that the rules are not being followed when it comes to the use of Driveline. A few weeks ago, we had an incident where a driver hit one of the staff members directing driveline. In my opinion, that is unacceptable. This week we also had a couple of incidents where some verbal argument happened between a couple of vehicles.
Please allow me to share this with you: Driveline is not a right but a privilege. There is a reason why so many people and volunteers help with driveline. They have been tasked with making sure every vehicle enters the parking lot and exits without incidents. To do that, they need to give you specific directions about what to do and what NOT to do. It is important that everyone follows them.
When it comes to the times that you are supposed to enter the parking lot, I am asking you to follow that very closely. You CAN NOT park in the street blocking the road (that is a traffic violation). If you enter the parking lot of a nearby business, and they call the Sheriff’s Office to report you for trespassing, you will be asked to leave the parking lot of that building immediately.
Driving slow down the road is not an option either (that is another traffic violation). Please think about this: When I am outside helping STEM with traffic, I cannot be inside the building where all our students are. So please, follow the rules, the law, and the directions from our driveline staff.
