I can’t believe we are already in May. Where did time go? I have said in the past that as we get closer to the end of the school year, I get excited for the break. I also get a little sad just by the thought of not seeing some of the seniors anymore after the summer. I am excited for them and for the things they will accomplish, though.
On a different note, have you chatted with your student about what to do if he/she is approached by a stranger? One of the main things I always tell my own kids is that they have no obligation to talk to anyone they don’t know. In fact, I also explain to my kids that they do not have to talk to anyone they do not wish to talk to unless necessary (as a family, we usually discuss what necessary means). Given that we are a K-12 school, I see a lot of students who leave campus at the end of the day on their own. Please have that conversation and provide the information to your students about how to stay safe on the street. Now that the weather is getting warmer, I see more students walking home.
Lastly, I just wanted to encourage you to please talk to your students about driving safely. A couple of accidents have happened down the street recently. Thankfully everyone has been ok. Car accidents are 100% preventable. Everyone is excited about the summer getting closer, some other people are getting more distracted while they drive, and a lot of our juveniles feel they know how to drive better than anyone else. Let’s keep them safe together!
