Athletics Update from Mr. Alsup: Celebrations and What’s the Come!

STEM Athletics Update

Athletics update:

Congratulations to the STEM eSports teams! We currently have two teams competing in the fall league, and both have made the playoffs! On Wednesday, the mighty STEM Rocket League Team defeated Taos Academy for our first ever eSports playoff victory. The League of Legends team will play the LT Raiders from Lindsay Thurber High School in Alberta Canada tonight (Thursday) and hope to get a second victory! Congratulations Spartans!

Our boys basketball season is underway! Our next game will be December 8th at Two Roads Charter School! Please visit our website for more information!

Boys Lacrosse is just around the corner! This year, we have elected to partner with Highlands Ranch High School to have a combined team for the 2022 season. This will give our athletes an opportunity to play a full schedule on a CHSAA sanctioned team. For those who are interested, there will be a parent meeting at Highlands Ranch High School on Wednesday, December 15th from 6:30-7:30. This will be a great opportunity to meet other parents and players, and get more information from Coach Walker (STEM head coach) and Coach CJ (Highlands Ranch Head Coach) about the upcoming season. They will also discuss the costs and registration process at this meeting.

While the fall eSports season is coming to a close, it is time for us to start registering for the spring season. The season starts in February, but we can begin registering now and start building our teams. We can start scrimmaging other schools as soon as we have a team in place! If you are interested in joining, here are the options:

  1. Super Smash Brothers- 3 player teams
  2. Splatoon 2- 4 player teams
  3. Madden NFL 21- Solo
  4. League of Legends- 5 player teams
  5. Rocket League- 3 player teams

If you are interested, it is easier if you sign up as a team. However, we will accept individual registrations as well and build teams from there. We will have a registration link in next week’s newsletter, but it is time to start recruiting for your teams now! If you have any questions, please see Coach Ray or myself!

Looking ahead to the spring. We currently offer boys and girls track, girls soccer, and boys lacrosse (partnered with Highlands Ranch). However, we are definitely interested in expanding our options. We can also add girls golf or girls tennis to the spring season, but I cannot begin to build a schedule without knowing if there is enough interest. So, I have created a short survey for interested families to fill out. Please click here for the survey.

Thanks everyone! Go Spartans!

Sincerely,
Ryan Alsup
STEM High School Director and Athletic Director
