Boys’ Soccer Falls to DSST: Byers in Season Opener

The STEM Boys Soccer(0-1) team had its first match on Monday, falling 10-1 to DSST: Byers(3-1). Byers utilized their height advantage with a well-executed set piece game, scoring most of their points on corner kicks and throw-ins.

The STEM boys played hard in their first game and generated several scoring opportunities, only to miss finishing with a goal.

Players of mention:

  • Senior Center Back Aiden Rowlett was consistently a strong defensive force in the middle, turning back numerous attacks.
  • Sophomore Goal Keeper Andrew Munro registered double-digit saves and recorded an assist when his punt cleared the Byers defense and met fast-charging
  • Senior Striker Kellan Shiffer, whose excellent finish found the back of the net.

As the game progressed, the midfielders and forwards also found increasing success and confidence passing through the Byers defense and creating several scoring opportunities. The team looks much improved over last season and has a lot to build on despite a very tough opening schedule. With upcoming home games, an enthusiastic home crowd could help inspire our Spartans to victory!
