The Chaparral Invitational was one for the books. It started out with beautiful weather. Our first event was the girls’ 100m hurdles. Rebecca Bukowski ran this and broke a record.
Hunter Englesen followed with the triple jump, breaking his very own record from last year.
Everyone else did awesome with their events. They tried hard and did their very best. What stood out to me the most, though, is that they showed great sportsmanship by cheering on our own athletes and other team’s athletes.
Some also picked up trash on the field. I was a very proud coach all day. The weather started to take a turn as the day went on, and it got very cold and windy. Our tent actually almost flew away. We were all down on the field when it caught wind. Other teams had to jump up and help poor Mrs. Hunt, Adam Hunt’s mom, hold it down. Thankfully, it did survive.
Our toes, on the other hand, almost did not. We did get a beautiful sunset which helped. Abigail Hullinger wrapped up our meet by scoring points in both of her events. She got SECOND in a race and got an award!!!!!!
We were so proud of her as a team. Our relay boys also scored points in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Overall, I have to say it was a successful meet. We laughed till we cried, tried our hardest, and had tons of fun being together. I’m the luckiest coach. GO SPARTANS!
