STEM Students Finish Strong At First CalcBowl Appearance

CalcBowl!
This week eight STEM calculus students competed in the 15th CalcBowl, which was held at Legend High School. It was STEM’s first experience at the CalcBowl and our team did a great job competing against many other teams stretching all of the way from the Denver Metro area to Colorado Springs.
Our students put up a good fight, but ultimately lost in the heats, just barely missing the semi-finals. It came down to the last five questions! Jennifer Laske has done a wonderful job with them and they are already talking about what they need to do for next year.
A special thanks to STEM teachers Jennifer Laske, Jessica Bates and Yacinda Tamendjari for escorting the students to the competition and getting them ready for it.
We’re also hoping to host the competition at STEM in the near future, so stay tuned!

STEM 1st Graders Demonstrate The Basics Of Business With Market Day

A day at the market!
STEM 1st graders were thrilled to show off their businesses and products to visiting parents for market day. Leading up to this, the students have been studying economics including buying, selling, bartering, trading and goods and services.
The students have also been learning how money works and how to come up with a business plan. Just like in the real world, the students had to come up with a name for their business, design and sell their products and handle a steady stream of customers.
Great job to our students and staff for another successful market day at STEM!
