STEM’s Simi Basu takes on new role as Enhancement Program Specialist

Simi Basu Enhancement Program Specialist

STEM School Highlands Ranch Secondary Computer Science Teacher and Cybersecurity Coach Simi Basu is taking on a new role at STEM as Enhancement Program Specialist.  With the new position, Simi will be responsible for identifying, developing and providing individual and group programs to support students and teachers in grades K-8 with asynchronous and synchronous opportunities in the field of cybersecurity, technology and problem-based learning.

The Enhancement Program Specialist at STEM seeks to infuse cybersecurity education and increased technology usage into our youngest learners, in order to prepare them for the future.

“That really comes as a natural move for me,” Basu said.  “I’ve been in technology for pretty much my entire life, and then in cybersecurity, I’ve been working on that with students for five years, and also working on K-12 with cybersecurity curriculums and PBL as well.”

Simi says she views this role as an opportunity to provide relevant experience to students with their everyday learning, and creating an integrated learning model focused on PBL (Problem Based Learning).

“So, students will explore real-world problems, challenges and they will also simultaneously double up on cross-curricular skills, working in groups and industry partners.”
