Athletics Update from Mrs. Jones (09/22/23)

Where is the Fall weather? Our teams are patiently waiting for cooler temperatures for practices and competitions. And no more lightning!

The Cross Country teams ran a meet at Stenger Sports Complex on Friday and turned in very respectable performances. They run again on Friday, Sept. 22, at Clement Park ( Columbine High School ) from 2-6 p.m. Go cheer on the teams!

Boys Soccer played last Friday at Lotus School for Excellence and lost a very rough game. We experienced a couple of injuries, but the boys refused to give up and played hard until the end of the game. Well done! The team also played on Tuesday at Twin Peaks Charter in Longmont. The boys orchestrated a final score of 2-2 despite missing several key players to injury. The team continues to improve each week. Next is a home game at David A. Lorentz Park against William Smith.

The Girls’ Volleyball team plays two home games next week! They play on Monday vs. DSST: Cedar and on Tuesday vs. Thomas MacLaren. The team has been playing without a few players due to injury and are looking forward to getting back to full strength.

The Boys’ Golf team participated in the Regional tournament and scored well. The boys worked diligently all season to improve their scores, and they did. While they could not get into as many tournaments as they wanted, they continued to work hard and showed well. Good job, Golf team!

Middle School Cross Country has also been running hard in practice, and a few meets. The team has several meets left, including the Runners Roost Invitational next Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Brighton, Colo.

The Middle School Girls’ Basketball teams only have two spots left on each team! Get registered now. Practice schedules will be sent out once HRCA gives us our gym time and location.

There will be an information meeting for High School Girls Basketball on Thursday, Sept. 28, in the Middle School Cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. Parents and students are encouraged to attend.

The information meeting for High School Boys Basketball will be on Tuesday, Sept. 26, in the High School Commons at 6:30 p.m. Parents and students are encouraged to attend.

The University of Denver is holding a youth Soccer Clinic on Sunday, Oct. 22, from 2-5 p.m. at Skyline Indoor Soccer at 2175 S Bryant St., Denver, CO 80129. The link to register can be found here: University of Denver Youth Soccer Clinic

Open to both boys and girls, the event will feature two notable University of Denver athletes — Sam Bassett and Ian Smith — who will lead a skills training session and team play, concluding with a panel to speak with the players about student-athlete life at the Division I level. The event is open to boys and girls ages 8-16. Use the discount code DENVER10 for a $10 discount at registration.

Go Spartans!
